Laying down in bed last night with my new Turquoise pendant I prepare for sleep, I had been ruminating over some ideas related to self development and archetypes and why we create idols and role models and Heroes for ourselves. I also just decided to invest in a book by Bruce Lee (I didn't realize he wrote a book!) and so all of these beautiful helpers were swirling around my energy field as I laid there is silence. Not to mention the earlier recognition that listening entails silence and words are noise, I was not silent for long when a realization landed in my awareness. This is what I am calling the divine purpose of skill development. Intellectually I knew skills had a purpose, and the main purpose I saw for them was survival prior to this realization which I will expose in just a moment. Survival is the lowest possible purpose for a skill as I see it, necessary yes, but not it's ultimate purpose. The other purpose I saw which has felt inaccurate for a while now was that skill was for showing off, for recognition. "Ooh look at that guy, look how skillful he is!" This is not the purpose either. The purpose upon consideration may seem obvious but it makes all the difference for me to know this, it just was one of the biggest aha moments I've had in a long while.
The divine purpose of skill development is so that we may fully express our spirit!
Just imagine how hard it would be to express yourself if you had no language to speak. Think of how much more beauty you can express if you know a few dance styles. And how you can translate the beautiful tunes you hear in your mind when you know how to write music. How much more free you feel when you can create some idea that has been fully developed in your mind like a painting, or a product. This is why we are here! We came to fully express our inner self and by attaining skills our spirit has the tools it needs to speak! All of the art forms out there, every profession, every talent and ability, they are all avenues for the spirit within to flow into our physical existence so that we may open up like a flower and express. They give us tools to turn inside out and be seen and heard, this gives a whole new understanding to the word power and its purpose. Power is Ability is Skill is Talent is what our spirit uses to express here. If we never learned to walk or even crawl we would just be flailing on the floor all our lives with no way to reach out to each other. Skill is for our Spirit, not just to be seen as something special. And by expressing ourselves fully we inspire each other to believe more is possible and that it is good and desirable and possible for everyone to express themselves and know the wonder that we have shared with them.
I used to hesitate in skill development because I thought I would just be gain skill as a means of manipulating others, and I didn't like that concept. It is not necessary that skill be used for manipulation, it is a means. When we feel an urging, a pulse, an energy flowing from within, skills create new avenues for that energy to express. All power can be used for good or ill, but one who has tuned into that feeling that their spirit gives, that feeling of inner freedom and self expression, they I think will see this link I have uncovered and use it for good.
All things creative.
