Just another example of how important it is to follow our intuition, today I was going to work on a page for the children's book I was commissioned to do by Eric when it started to occur to me that I could approach it differently. I wasn't enjoying myself quite as much as I knew was possible, and so I tuned in deeply. Then I realized there have been allot of signs over the past couple weeks that have been telling me to simplify things in my art. Glenn told me to simplify for his company, Mark said the same thing for a graphic he asked me to do, which was very popular by the way. The Calvin and Hobbes book arrived a week ago and has been reminding me constantly how simplicity is as effective as anything, especially in conveying story. So I decided I was going to do this book differently. I'd already illustrated four pages but the idea of simplifying was too compelling now and so I told Eric my plan and he was digging it! I felt so free again!
A Real Premonition!
I set out to the art store to get some supplies so that I could create art on the go and away from the computer more and along the way a friend I hadn't seen in over a year drove by and hollered! We spoke about what we were up to and such... Holy Mother of... I just remembered that I was thinking about our encounter moments before it happened! How can I have forgotten that!? I was going over what we would talk about and how it's been forever just moments before! Him calling to me must have disrupted my thoughts enough to create a disconnection and instant forgetfulness. Amazing. Well we exchanged business cards and stuff and he made sure his last words were "don't be a stranger!"
A Positive Influence
I've noticed something recently, when I meet up with people they seem to be kinda down or "whatever" about life in their facial expression and demeanor, but by the time we're done chatting or we part ways they are all smiles. Do you know that kind of smile where you can just tell they are gushing with joy? That kind. I love that I can have that influence, warms my heart.
The brighter we shine and the more love we exude the greater our positive affect on everyone we encounter, it just the way it is. Also the world opens up to us, we realize that we can do anything we want and not have fear that there won't always be someone out there who will help us, there will be. It literally begins to feel like the world is family and you could practically knock on anyone's door, tell them your situation and be invited to stay for the night, any day of the year. You open up, the world opens up!
I put some art together and experimented with the pen and paper techniques as well as a simulated watercolor effect in Photoshop. I hope Eric likes it because I know I enjoyed it. Caught the clock at 11:11pm tonight as soon as I walked into the kitchen for a break from the PC. I was super excited and ran to get my camera.
OMG you would not believe it! I was just explaining to Eric how I felt about the new design and how I would give him a discount for the reduce in detail and I went back to check my wording and found out to my amazement that I sent it at exactly 1:43am! Simply amazing!
All things creative.
